In Taking a Global Approach to
Identifying the IT Needs of Your New or Existing Company, Ask the
Following:
1. How many staff will require access to
your companyÕs data; what do you project the number to be in 2
years? 2. Describe your work force; are they mobile or mainly contained
within your facility? 3. Will the staff require remote access to your
companyÕs information (i.e. while they travel or while working from
home)? 4. How important is email to your organization in regards to
interaction with customers, trading partners, vendors and internal
staff? 5. Does your landlord provide high-speed Internet access; if so,
what type of security or intrusion detection do they provide to protect
your organization? 6. Do you have an Internet Service Provider and have
you secured a domain name for your company? 7. What software
applications are you familiar with or are you considering?

A
New Business + A Total IT Need + A Short Period of Time = An Integrated
Technology Solution and MCIT
The
Business Challenge
An Atlanta-based distributor of
thermoplastic resin for plastics manufacturing, contacted Moore Colson
Information Technology (MCIT) to consult and assist with the overall IT
needs of their new company. As a new company, they had an immediate
(within one month) need for the implementation of everything from
computers, to networks, to ongoing support. Not only were they looking for
an IT vendor, but they were also looking for a proactive, consultative,
overall business partner to aide in structuring the set-up of their
company.
The
Solution
MCIT took a
global approach to identifying the upfront needs of the company and asked
assessment questions to verify the right type of service at the right
price. In working with the CFO of the company, MCIT began with asking the
following questions, Òwhat type of systems do you need, how many users do
you project, whatÕs the building environment like, and will you have web
hosting needs?Ó From the answers to those questions, MCIT
began the installation of desktop and laptop computers, a Windows 2000
Small Business Server (includes Exchange ø which allows the company to
have their own e-mail server), a SQL server (allows the company to house
their own database), and a Cisco firewall (allows the company to have
proper security and internet functions). In addition, MCIT trained all
personnel and continues to serve in a network engineer capacity for
ongoing technical support.The Result
MCIT
partnered with the company to get them up and running within one month
while acting as a consulting arm and working with their existing vendors.
Not only did MCIT identify all IT needs, but they also coordinated the
installation and positioned the companyÕs business to operate efficiently
and effectively.
