Atlanta based Moore Colson presented their annual
Scholarship Award in Athens, Georgia at the University of
Georgia’s J.M. Tull School of Accounting Annual Spring Honors
Banquet on April 26, 2005. The annual J. M. Tull School of
Accounting Spring Honors Banquet recognizes 50 of "best of the
best" in the Tull School with various awards and scholarships.
About 275 students, faculty/staff, and firm representatives were
in attendance. Moore Colson Partner Jeff Hays, firm members,
Kendra Cheney, Melissa Lindh and Moore Colson summer interns
Jeremy Wilson and Meg Mamalakis attended, which included a
presentation to Anne Lane, this year’s recipient of the Moore
Colson Scholarship.
The Moore Colson Accounting Achievement Award was established to
recognize either a member or initiate of Beta Alpha Psi. The
recipient must demonstrate great all around academic and
personal skills and be someone who is considered to have the
energy and insight necessary to provide future growth to the
accounting profession.
Anne’s accolades are impressive. With an overall GPA of 3.87,
Anne has been quite active in a number of organizations at UGA.
To name a few, Anne has participated in or been awarded the
following: University of Georgia Charter Scholarship, Honors
Program, Presidential Scholar, National Society of Collegiate
Scholars, Beta Alpha Psi Accounting Honor Fraternity initiate,
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, Habitat for Humanity volunteer,
and Children’s Miracle Network. Anne expects to receive a B.B.A.
- Accounting, May 2006 and is seeking an internship for the
summer of 2006 as well.
In addition, UGA Business School Junior and 2005 Moore Colson
Summer Intern, Megan Mamalakis was the recipient of the Meli
(pronounced melly) Arant (A-rant) Memorial Scholarship. The Meli
Arant Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the memory
of the 1987 graduate of the J. M. Tull School of Accounting. The
recipient is chosen by a faculty committee and is awarded to a
student who has exhibited scholarship, service to the School of
Accounting, Terry College of Business, or The University of
Georgia, and has a potential for leadership.
Meg, who will begin her internship with Moore Colson on May 23,
was also elected as an upcoming officer for Beta Alpha Psi.
Meg is currently a member of the UGA Honors Program and Dean’s
List and was a Presidential Scholar for two quarters with a
perfect 4.0 GPA. Meg expects to receive a Bachelor of Business
Administration in Accounting, May 2006.
In other news from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama,
2005 Moore Colson Summer intern Zach Harter, a junior at Samford
University, received the Alton P. Barr Scholarship, one of the
most prestigious awards at Samford’s School of Business. These
scholarships are awarded by the university scholarship committee
based on strong academic credentials and professional promise.
Zach expects to graduate in May 2006 with a Bachelor of Science,
Business Administration and has also been the recipient of
numerous honors. Zach is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta Honors
Society, Samford Ambassadors, Dean’s list and the Samford
University Presidential Scholarship.
Jessica Brewer, also a 2005 Moore Colson intern received, the
PricewaterhouseCoopers Scholarship awarded to a junior
accounting major who has demonstrated excellence in scholarly
work and in extracurricular activities, and who shows promise of
continued achievement in an accounting career.
