Georgia State and Local Tax Alert – Tax-Related Identity Theft and State of Georgia’s Net Tax Collections

  • The Georgia Dept. of Revenue (DOR) and Security Summit Partners have announced new results from 2018 that show progress in the fight against tax-related identity theft and a reduction in attempted tax fraud. The DOR joined the Security Summit in 2015 and since has enacted protocols with Security Summit Partners. These initiatives have resulted in fewer fraudulent tax returns entering tax processing systems, fewer confirmed identity theft returns and fewer Georgians identifying themselves as tax-related identity theft victims.   • The State of Georgia’s net tax collections for March 2019 totaled nearly $1.67 billion. This is an increase of $109 million, or 7%, compared to March 2018, when net tax collections totaled almost $1.56 billion. Year-to-date, net tax collections totaled $17.04 billion for an increase of $380 million, or 2.3%, compared to the previous fiscal year, when net tax revenues totaled $16.66 billion through three quarters.
